Word of the Day for Tuesday April 4, 2006

brummagem \BRUHM-uh-juhm\, adjective:
Cheap and showy, tawdry; also, spurious, counterfeit.

Oh my GAWD! I could do a cartwheel I'm SO relived. The college called and told me they recieved a check from the parental units and I'm now stable financially. About time, ya putzes! Now I can finally go back to school and hopefully have a future in Veterinary Science. Thanks for the delay! Maybe I can still go to Texas A&M (Whoop!) undergraduate school. We'll have to see. On another train of thought, I watched Ron White's "You Can't Fix Stupid." Freakin hilarious! Next time you have a thought, let it go. Word. So..yeah...record it or something...

9 days until my birthday! Make a memo and buy me something nice, ne? x)

And let's not forget my $500 Target gift card and dancers, ne sibling?

Okay, I'm starting to get really concerned about paying for the rest of college. My parents say they sent a check that should cover the rest months ago. Check? Did they have this money in the first place? What happened to the financial aid stuff? Weren't those sent when I was back in my Senior year of highs chool? There were scholarships I received but those only cover so much. I mean, this is crazy I should be a Junior in college now. Getting into vet school is going to be even more of a challenge to get into now that there's a year gap between my Sophomore and Junior year. Touching base on Christmas, Easter and part of summer isn't cool! This isn't good I feel like my future is in jeopardy!

Back From Sea World

Dr. Dictionary Word of the Day:
amalgam \uh-MAL-guhm\, noun:
1. An alloy of mercury with another metal or metals; used
especially (with silver) as a dental filling.
2. A mixture or compound of different things.

Howdy! I just got back from Sea World (San Antonio, TX) a few hours ago and let me say it was amazing. It was an animal lover's dream come true! Maybe instead of a Vet I'll become a trainer, hee. There was so much I did, shnikes I don't know where to start. Let's see, I guess my favorite was the penguins. We got to go to the actual exhibit and play with them! Hee, I got sandwiched by two King Penguins. So cute! I also liked the orcas but you have to wait like, 3 years to get in the water with them. That's only after the swim test. I guess we'll see. Feeding the sharks was pretty fly too.....

...maybe next time I'll get to touch a sea otter. Sweeeeeet. (XD)

-Hana

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work?
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:
Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:
According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Yesterday I was re-reading my favorite book The Five People You Meet in Heaven to pass Valentines Day. As I was reading, I came across a quote about love, and I think that it really hit's home in a lot of ways. Granted, Valentine's Day is passed, but the words won't mean any less. The speaker is the main character, Eddie's wife when he meets her in heaven. Eddie asked her why she had to die years before him and she replies with a heartfelt answer.

"Lost love is still love, Eddie. It takes a different form, that's all. You can't bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it. Life has to end. Love doesn't."

Yeah that book is the shiznit and I highly recomment it. Mitch Absolm's interpretation of heaven is unlike any other you will ever discover. Even if you don't believe in heaven you'll enjoy it. Go to your local book store, buy it, read it, love it, re-read it over and over. Now march.

-Hana

My DNA is doomed forever...

Kiba...did something to Neji without thinking, so I had to go play ref. I made him apologize but it didn't end well. Neji ran and hid in his house while Kiba and I duked it out on his front step. Needless, to say it didn't end well and I said something I kinda regret. He just -frustrated sound- doesn't think things through and I have a tongue too sharp and willing to criticize. He yelled I scathingly replied. I guess we're okay now, but there wasn't much closure on the issue.

On a different note teachers make me nervous with their teaching mojos.

Also, I found some of my old Disney movies <3 I watched Beauty and the Beast for the first time in years. That's one of my favorite movies. Belle is my favorite princess and my look-a-like. She stands for all us brunettes!

Dr. Dictionary word of the day:

eleemosynary \el-uh-MOS-uh-ner-ee\, adjective:
1. Of or for charity; charitable; as, "an eleemosynary
institution."
2. Supported by or dependent on charity; as, "the eleemosynary
poor."

-Hana
(Did you guys copy that log at all?)

Burning at Both Ends

It's been a week since my return (ooc: Or Joining XD) and I had already forgotten how fast everything happens here. When I actually sat back and got a chance to observe, it's...insane. Carpe diem isn't a banner that someone waves, it's a way of life. Anyways, just a piece of my mind. -shrugs- The job search hasn't produced any fruits yet. Yeah there's subbing but that's not consistent. I'm starting to get worried about mom and dad. It would've been nice to see them when I got home. Kiba and Ino were there but that's all. I have to wonder where this places me in our family. There aren't any close cousins or aunts and uncles that I know of. Hmmm...this is troubling.
Carpe diem.

My candle burns at both ends
it will not last the night;
But ah my foes and oh, my friends--
It gives such a lovely light!
-My old US History Book

As of now, my candle burns on one end.

-Hana

Bleh.

I started talking to teachers today about subbing. They're definitely interesting characters. The kids seem to be a unique buch too (if they're like Kiba in anyway -shakes head-). The vet clinic was slower today, and I had to see an old poodle put to sleep. Poor thing was blind, deaf, and 14 years old. The owner stayed there when it happened which was good. I went home and coddled my doggies after that and played Kingdom Hearts. If one of my dogs had to be put down I'd want to be there for them. Some owners can't stand to be there but even if your dog can't see or hear you they can still recognize your scent. What other way is there than to have your caretaker there when you go? Anyways, that's just my opinion. The job search is going OK. Yeah there's subbing but I want a consistent job. Maybe I can be a cocktail waitress. That jobs supposed to have good tips. Oh well. Soccer was cancelled due to thunderstorms. Squishy fields tomorrow. Yay.

-Hana

Imagine we are all the same. Imagine we all agree about politics, religion, morality. Imagine we like the same types of music, art, food and coffee. Imagine we all look alike. Sound boring? Differences need not divide us. Embrace diversity. Dignity is everyone's human right.

-Some random Starbucks Grande cup XD

I Win!

Score! I'm getting male dancers and $500 for my birtyday! Too bad I have to wait until April 13. Did anyone know Kiba sang in Vegas? Anyone? Oh well. It's nice to be back here. Nice to see family again, even if certain members call me unflattering names and accuse me of obscene acts -brandishes butter knife- I intend to talk to the teachers about my substituting services so I can make some money. Hopefully I can pay off my part of college that scholarships and parents didn't take care of. Oh well, soccer should be fun this year. I'll definitely get a lot of playing time since it's JV. I have to actually attend the college to do Varsity. (ooc:Yes I am pulling this out of my butt.) Hopefully the aches will get better as the season progresses. Soccer still rocks....but not as much as doggies and Kiba taking care of a kitten.

-Hana

Oh em gee. My quads are killing me. I did lunges (holding for 15 seconds) around the soccer field and now every sitting motion makes me wince. The best part is the ache will still be there tomorrow. Yay! On the bright side, I bought this freakin' sweet game called Kingdom Hearts a few days ago. It is just awsssssooooooome! The joy-stick on the controller took me some time to get used to. An experienced gamer would've laughed at me. Hee. I Just finished Wonderland (I haven't gotten to far as you can see) and let me just say that that place is just as trippin' as the movie. Hmmm...a warm bath and Bengay sounds most vunderbar right now...and then Kingdom Hearts between job applications.
Anyone else play Kingdom hearts? Any hints for a humble beginner? :D
